Welcome to the SIGMA team website

Overview:

Information Systems are at the heart of our society. A growing number of small, modest or great acts of our everyday live require connection, interaction with or between multiple information systems. More generally, they rely on data, tasks and processes inside a complex digital, information driven and human ecosystems constantly evolving. This evolution of existing systems faces new problems and more than ever, traditional models, methods and tools used to build and manage information systems are challenged. Emergence of new technologies (social networks, IoT, Cloud, etc.) are generating a proliferation of different functions, not necessarily connected, that target different types of users with new practices. New systems must be designed to functionally scale up to support a wide variety of users, usages, changes and technologies breakthrough.

The challenge is to design complex digital and human ecosystems that provide quality, innovation and being sustainable regarding time and usage evolution. Moreover, the user is no longer a simple actor accessing data or taking a role in a process, instead he/she deserves to understand and to master the way information is processed, promoting him/her to the role of expert. These challenges, to be addressed, need major development in handling continuous change, enhancing quality and promoting diversity. For this purpose, the SIGMA team is mainly focusing its work on the design of models, methods and tools aiming at controlling and managing the evolution of information systems within complex digital, information driven and human ecosystems. The team contributes to enabling and controlling the continuous evolution of information systems that underlie a connected and innovative society. The SIGMA team contributes to this goal by:

Research Themes:

RT1: The creation of co-design approaches based on user-centered modeling techniques and participative methods to ensure the continuous improvement of complex ecosystems and processes taking into account the heterogeneity and requirements of actors and organizations.

RT2: The creation of tools to enhance the quality of systems through approaches ranging from ad hoc systems conception (quality of business information systems) to highlighting data structure (document-oriented NoSQL) and raw data meaning (publications) in scientific information systems.

RT3: Designing method and tools taking into account the diversity of data by leveraging management and knowledge extraction from data streams and semi-structured data.
